Yes — you can buy cleansers and toners that work to clarify your skin and dislodge trapped debris to prevent irritation and the opportunity for breakouts to form. With strong yet effective surfactants and exfoliating acids, our range is formulated to manage excess sebum production and rebalance the bacteria on your skin to address the signs of acne.

How do I choose the right cleanser for my skin type?

We formulate our skin cleansers so every skin type can easily tolerate them, whether your dermis leans towards dry, combination or oily. For people prone to flare-ups and sensitivity, we recommend slathering on our Calmwise Soothing Cleanser, which is enriched with gentle ingredients that hydrate and calm irritation from surfactants. If you incorporate a double cleanse step in your routine, start with our Micellar Mousse or Lipid-Balance Cleansing Oil to effectively slough away layers of sunscreen and makeup before following with a gel or cream cleanser.

What is an oil-based cleanser, and how does it work?
Oil-based cleansers are formulated with natural oils or esters that bind to oil-based impurities like sebum, makeup, sunscreen, and pollution. They work on the principle that “like dissolves like,” gently lifting away debris without disrupting the skin’s natural moisture barrier. To use, massage the cleanser onto dry skin for 30–60 seconds, then add water to emulsify before rinsing thoroughly. Oil cleansers are especially effective as the first step in a double cleanse, helping to remove long-wear or waterproof products with ease.
Are toners good for exfoliating?

Yes, toners can be an effective and gentle way to exfoliate the skin. Exfoliating toners are typically water-based formulas infused with mild acids (like AHAs or BHAs) that help to dissolve dead skin cells on the surface. This encourages smoother texture, brighter tone, and improved absorption of follow-on products. 

Medik8 offers two expert-formulated exfoliating toners designed for twice-daily use, even on sensitive skin. Press & Glow uses gentle polyhydroxy acid (PHA) for daily, non-irritating resurfacing, while Press & Clear features encapsulated salicylic acid (BHA) to target blemishes while maintaining barrier comfort. Both enhance the clarity and radiance of your skin over time.

How often should you exfoliate with BHA?

There isn’t a single schedule that suits everyone.

Some find that using BHA once or twice a week is enough, while others gradually build up to more frequent use depending on the product and their skin’s tolerance.

Using more product or applying it more often does not necessarily lead to better-looking skin. Consistency over time is generally a more sustainable approach than increasing frequency too quickly.

Can you combine BHA with other skincare ingredients?
